Electric cars have bigger CO2 footprint?

An article on the Townhall Finances web site, Obama Blunders on Batteries Badly by Bob Beauprez, talks about how Obama has worked to increase the price of gasoline to get people out of their SUVs and into electric and hybrid vehicles. He also describes some of the huge tax dollars put into developement of electric cars.  The result is "a vehicle that costs $41,000 but offers the performance and interior space of a $15,000 economy car."

He also writes about how Obama has closed down coal fired plants (like McGuinty has) which need to be replaced by more expensive sources of electricity. The projected increase in electricity costs "will cause one to pause before recharging the battery."

But the real kicker is a recently released study conducted by the British Government. "Electric cars could produce higher emissions over their lifetimes than petrol (gas) equivalents because of the energy consumed in making their batteries," according to the analysis.
