Government Job Killer
PRESS RELEASE - For immediate release -
An Ontario microbrewery, Beau's beer, in an attempt to offer employment to at-risk youth and raise money to fund programs and services for the not-for-profit Operation Come Home, has been denied the opportunity to do so after the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) informed the local charity that they could not continue their home delivery service of Beau's beer. This was done after the AGCO had received a complaint from an unidentified competing brewery. As the law is currently written, Home Delivery Service is not allowed when products are purchased from a retail store owned by a microbrewery; it is only legal when products are purchased from the LCBO or from a retail store owned by a major brewery.
The Ontario Libertarian Party, as the party of choice, supports the principle that consumers make better choices if they are free to do so, without government restrictions on who can provide a service for them, and it urges MPPs of the various parties to revoke legislation that restricts competition.
"Legislation that favours large corporations over small corporations has never been a value that Ontarians support," says Allen Small, leader of the Ontario Libertarian Party, "this oversight should be quickly remedied, so that more jobs will be created."
"Allen's call for action is likely to be well received by all MPPs, as the opportunity to provide work for the poorest in society and make them independent of government support should have broad appeal and prove to be more important than protecting the strangle hold of alcohol revenues for the province," suggested Paolo Fabrizio, deputy leader of the Ontario Libertarian Party.
